Class Projects

Literacy Your challenge is to create an Abel Tasman literacy project that shows acceleration in aspects of literacy. You will use the literacy progressions to assess where you are at then plan a project to extend your progress in literacy.
1) Your project must contain at least 3 different writing styles (genres).
2) It must show evidence of acceleration in understanding ‘fit for purpose’ and explain this for each different genre and learning focus.
3) Each piece of writing must be accompanied with a marking guide/rubric written from the literacy progressions showing the learning outcome focus.
4) You must share and present your Literacy project with other children/classes.

MathsOutdoor Experience of the Year
With the recent acquisition of Awaroa Bay. The Tasman council want to hand over the space to the people of the Abel Tasman. You have been chosen to design an Outdoor Experience for students aged between 8 - 11 years old.

 The Criteria:
1)You have been given 2 hectares with some beach front.
2)The grounds will be used as an overnight camp for 3 nights and 4 days.
3)You must include a range of activities appropriate yet challenging.
4)You can only use 1/4 of the land for building structures.
5)Unfortunately ⅕ of the area is tidal, so you must consider your construction ideas.
6)You must include a ‘predator-proof’ fence to conserve local wildlife.
7)There is no budget and everything you need will be provided.
8) On your plan you must show where everything will be held/stored.
9)Your design must be to scale.
10)You will be judged on ‘Responding Creatively’.
11)You will be judged on the reality of your camp.
12) You will be judged on how you present your design.

Art: Respond to Camp Creatively

Understanding the visual arts in context Investigate the purpose of objects and images from past and present cultures and identify the contexts (the background information) in which they were or are made, viewed and valued.

Developing practical knowledge Explore and use art-making conventions, applying knowledge of the arts elements (colour, form, line, shape, space, texture) and selected rules- through the use of materials and art processes.

Developing ideas Develop and revisit visual ideas, in response to a variety of motivations (feelings, interests, inspirations), observation, and imagination, supported by the study of artists’ works. Communicating and interpreting Explore and describe ways in which meanings can be communicated and interpreted in their own and others’ work.

1) Create an artwork or two using an art media that is challenging and requires research into learning a new technique
2) Include a summary of how your artistic skills have improved
3) Present your work!
